infinity and beyond: People who are "pro-choice" sicken me
I love living in a country where I have the freedom to choose who I want to marry, what religion I want to practice, what school I want to go to. We can also choose to practice safe sex or not have sex at all. However, once you have given life to a new creature, I don’t think you can choose whether it lives or dies.
I look at ultrasound pictures of my unborn niece and I see a beautiful human being. She has hands and feet just like you and I. She deserves the chance to live. Who knows, she could become a doctor, a lawyer, maybe even the next president.
Some people may argue, abortion is every woman’s right. Ask yourself, since when do women have the “right” to be murderers?
And the 54% of women who use contraception but conceive anyway? What are they then expected to do in that circumstance? Or the women who can’t carry a baby to term because of serious medical or mental health issues, are they never allowed to have sex with the person they love? Or the rape victim who was in the process of becoming a doctor (but would have to drop out of medical school to afford the pregnancy, subsequent child, and medical exams)?
Should none of those women be allowed to have a perfectly legal medical procedure? What about cancer patients? Should they not be allowed to remove a tumor from their body? After all, a tumor is made up of human cells just like a fetus. It grows just like a fetus. It has no rights, just like a fetus. It is not a person, just like a fetus. If cancer patients have the right to remove (or choose not to remove) a tumor then women should have the same option available to them to remove the fetus growing inside of them.
A fetus is not a person. It can’t breathe, eat, poop, or grow without hijacking its host’s organs, blood, or immune system. It does not have rights because it is not a person. A person is autonomous, it does not rely on the body of someone else to breathe for it. Removing a fetus is not murder because the fetus is not a person, it does not have rights.
Your niece could also be a serial killer or a future Hitler. The argument of potential is not valid. There are so many things a fetus could grow to do but what about the woman who exists autonomously already? She could be a doctor, or a lawyer, or the next president, but she won’t get to do that if she’s forced to birth a baby she didn’t want and couldn’t afford. She won’t get to go to college, she won’t get to do a lot of things because her body happened to release an egg.
For someone who “doesn’t judge” (according to your profile) you’re doing an awful lot of it.
Love,
Rabble
